When you commit to realizing your passions, outside interest and career opportunities naturally emerge.
Mikal Carter was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, raised in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and currently resides in Oakland, California. This tri-coastal background has fostered a unique and holistic outlook that bridges the creative and technological mastery required by today’s working artist.
Mikal is an active, commercial artist whose diverse client list includes Kanpai Pictures, Ravin’ Films, Tenth Planet Productions and Bank of America. Mikal’s work has appeared on Paul McCartney’s US Tour (2005), at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in the film Fly Jefferson Airplane and on VH1.
As a professional artist, Mikal is a founding member of SOFA (South of Fruitvale Artists) and exhibits video-installation work through-out the Bay Area. The first major compilation of his work, Winner the Porks: Forever and Ever, was released on DVD in 2004.
Mikal graduated from the Academy of Art University (B.F.A., 2000) and has taught at Expression since 2003.
Teaching at Expression is a unique opportunity that allows me to engage the next generation of artists by helping them nurture their own creative abilities and discover their own passions.
