Arne Frager | Plant Studios, Owner

Arne Frager graduated from UCLA in 1966 with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration. He began his professional career as a computer designer for Hughes Aircraft Company. In three years he moved on to Adage, Inc. and as a sales manager and design engineer pioneered in the field of 3-D computer graphics. In 1974, after seven years, Arne left the field of technology sales and marketing to pursue his primary interest, music and pro audio. Arne established Spectrum Studios in Venice, California in 1974. There, Arne was the first studio owner to offer the Sony 16 bit digital recording, mixing and editing PCM 1610 to the Los Angeles recording community. In 1982, Arne established Hollywood Central Studios, a 24-track recording complex. Tiring of Los Angeles and looking for a good place to raise a family, Arne moved to Marin County, California and took control of The Plant Recording Studios in 1988. As proprietor, Arne returned The Plant to profitability and re-established its reputation as San Francisco’s premier professional recording facility. As a producer and engineer at The Plant, Arne has worked with such artists as; Santana, Michael Bolton, Prince, John Lee Hooker, Tony!Toni!Tone!, Sammy Hagar, Hank Williams, Jr. and others. Under Arne’s leadership, The Plant has produced over 50, #1 hits during the 1990’s. In 1995 Arne began to realize the potential of the Internet for the digital distribution of music and media. In 1996, Arne co-founded Liquid Audio Inc., the pioneering internet music distribution company. Today, Arne continues his stewardship of The Plant and two independent record labels.
