
Matthew E. Jones is a lab instructor at Ex’pression College for Digital Arts in the Motion Graphics and Interactive Audio programs, with a special focus on audio/visual synthesis via his role as lab instructor of the video installation art class “Beyond the Screen.” Off campus he can usually be found wrapping cables, balancing stage lights, rigging speakers, ladder climbing, or just projecting what is, naturally, light.. He is a co-founder of the Bay Area artist collective “Fantastic OptoSonic Collective” and is a fine-art installer and documentarian, working currently with RED® digital cinematographer Benjy Young, for the environmental artist Ned Kahn.
As a traditionally trained percussionist, performer of upright & electric bass guitars, and all around “synthesis sympathist,” he gigs live with the music acts Space Ape, Steel Hotcakes, The Ps & Qs, and his own electronic music group, A Low Cost Affordable Heating Plan. From time to time he can be found in the studio working on collaborations with fellow Ex’pression staff Brent Harnisch, Jacob Warren, Karen Stackpole, and Audrey Howard on a variety of sound designs, animation scores, and other musical explorations.
