Director of Information Technology

Ex’pression College for Digital Arts, located in Emeryville, is hiring a Director of Information Technology. Ex’pression College features an accelerated style of learning, professional-grade art and sound recording studios, and faculty with significant industry experience. Ex’pression is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) and offers Bachelor of Applied Science Degrees in Animation & Visual Effects, Digital Filmmaking, Game Art & Design, Motion Graphic Design, Interactive Audio, and Sound Arts.

We offer interesting IT systems work without a stuffy, corporate environment. Here you will find the opportunity to work in the visual effects and sound production industries without the grinding production schedules. We work with artists and students who are pursuing their dreams to turn their passion into their profession.

We have hundreds of computers, several recording studios, a render farm, a large campus network and plenty of opportunities for growth and exploration.

Responsibilities
The IT Director oversees the IT staff, including the helpdesk.  The Director is responsible for all IT systems at the college and for preparing and managing the IT department budget for capital and operating expenses.  The Director interfaces with other departments throughout the college to gather requirements and implement improvements to the IT infrastructure. The IT Director is also responsible for long range IT planning.  Most work takes place during normal business hours, but after hours and weekend work is occasionally necessary and you will be required to participate in an on-call rotation.

No travel is required.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years in an IT management role
  • A minimum of 10 years of Windows, Macintosh, and Linux administration experience with solid expertise in Active Directory.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in LAN administration and design preferably with a strong Cisco background
  • Expert understanding of TCP/IP networks
  • A minimum of 5 years Microsoft Exchange administration experience
  • A minimum of 5 years DBA experience with a SQL RDBMS
  • Experience with VOIP systems, preferably Microsoft Lync
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A dedication to outstanding systems administration practice and customer service.

Preference will be given to candidates with a background in system administration in visual effects studios, render farm experience, or recording/sound production studios.

Preference will also be given to candidates with experience in administering (not necessarily using) the following software packages: Maya, Adobe Creative Suite, ProTools

Animation and Visual Effects Course Director (Part-time)

Ex’pression College for Digital Arts, located in Emeryville, has an opening for a Course Director. (This is a part-time position.) Ex’pression College features an accelerated style of learning, professional-grade art and sound recording studios, and faculty with significant industry experience. Ex’pression is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) and offers Bachelor of Applied Science Degrees in Animation & Visual Effects, Digital Filmmaking, Game Art & Design, Motion Graphic Design, Interactive Audio, and Sound Arts.

Our intensive Animation & Visual Effects program is looking for dynamic, creative educators to join our team!

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ideal candidates must have a proven professional track record, and excel at one or more of the following skills:

  • Creating Dynamic Effects using Maya and/or Houdini
  • Motion Capture using the Vicon Blade system, Motion Builder, and Maya
  • Compositing using Nuke, Photoshop, and PFtrack
  • Rendering using Renderman and MentalRay
  • Scripting for visual effects using Python and MEL

Professional experience must be demonstrated in a strong visual portfolio. Experience in higher education is a huge plus, but not necessarily required for the right candidate with commensurate experience. All candidates should possess exceptional communication skills, leadership abilities, and a high level of organization and attention to detail.

Requirements
A minimum of a baccalaureate degree earned in a relevant field from an accredited 4-year college, and at least four years professional experience is required.

Motion Graphic Design Instructor (Part-time)

Ex’pression College for Digital Arts, located in Emeryville, has an opening for a Motion Graphic Design Instructor. (this is a part-time) Ex’pression College features an accelerated style of learning, professional-grade art and sound recording studios, and faculty with significant industry experience. Ex’pression is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) and offers Bachelor of Applied Science Degrees in Animation & Visual Effects, Digital Filmmaking, Game Art & Design, Motion Graphic Design, Interactive Audio, and Sound Arts.

Our intensive Motion Graphic Design program is looking for dynamic, creative educators to join our team!

Students focus on developing an advertising concept that communicates an idea effectively.This course introduces students to Adobe After Effects.Classes will be focused on learning the interface and basic motion graphics/animation techniques.Students learn how to create motion graphics spots.Classes are 8 weeks long, with a mix of lecture and labs throughout the term.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ideal candidates must have a proven professional track record with a strong motion background, and be knowledgeable at one or more of the following software packages:

  • Adobe After Effects
  • Illustrator
  • Photoshop
  • Cinema 4D

Experience in higher education is a huge plus, but not necessarily required for the right candidate with commensurate experience. All candidates should possess exceptional communication skills, leadership abilities, and a high level of organization and attention to detail.

Requirements
A minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in Design earned from an accredited 4-year college (a degree in fine arts will not qualify), and at least four years professional experience is required. A copy of your 4-year degree is required.
