An overview of admissions requirements and process

You can earn your Bachelor’s degree with our accelerated schedule and graduate in just over 2 ½ years! We offer federal financial aid for those who qualify, some high school scholarships, and several options for tuition payment.
Ex’pression may accept general education credits transferred from accredited post-secondary institutions if certain conditions (as outlined in the college catalog) are met. Credit for any other courses may be granted on a course-by-course basis based on a transfer request made by the student prior to matriculation. All transfer units are subject to approval.
Enrollment Procedures and Admission Requirements
The Application ProcessTo apply for admission at Ex’pression applicants must complete the following requirements:
Application Form & FeeYou can request an application form from an Admissions Representative or you can apply online by clicking here. A $95 non-refundable application fee ($10 for veterans) must accompany your completed application form (please refer to the refund policy in our catalog for further details).
Personal EssayA typed essay describing your reasons and motivation for applying to the degree program of your choice is required. The essay must be a minimum of two pages, double spaced; using 12 point Times New Roman font. This essay allows Ex’pression to gain an understanding of your interests and to learn more about you.
Evidence of Graduation from High School or EquivalentSend one of the following:
- an official sealed transcript from your high school showing evidence of graduation
- a copy of your high school diploma
- a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- a high school equivalency certificate such as the California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE)
For home-schooled applicants: please submit documentation that outlines the curriculum studied. This may be in the form of course syllabi or a transcript from a recognized home-schooling agency. If documentation is not possible, GED or CHSPE scores must be submitted.
For students who have earned an associate’s or bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution recognized by the US Department of Education: in lieu of submitting any of the above documents you may submit a transcript from your college showing evidence of graduation.
All transcripts must be in English or accompanied by a certified English translation of the original.
*For those wishing to apply for the Academic Competitiveness Grant, you must submit an official high school transcript showing evidence of graduation.
For students with prior college credit wishing to transfer credit: please refer to the Transfer of Credit Policy in our catalog.
Portfolio or Drawing Test - For those applying to the Animation and Visual Effects, Game Art & Design or Motion Graphic Design Programs onlyApplicants to the Animation and Visual Effects and Game Art and Design programs will be required to complete either an on-site drawing test, or submit three sketches of your own hand holding an object of your choice. If you choose to submit sample sketches please mail the sketches to your admissions representative.
Applicants to the Motion Graphic Design program will be required to submit a portfolio with a minimum of 3 samples (maximum of 6) of artwork that demonstrate the use of one or more of the following properties: balance, composition, layout, color, contrast, and storytelling. Please note: only 2 computer-generated submissions are accepted.
The following media are accepted:
- Illustration (ink, woodcut, print, watercolor, acrylic, art markers, pencil, charcoal, pastels, collage)
- Photography (landscape, portrait, commercial, documentary),
- Print Graphic Design (typeface, logo, postcard, poster, magazine),
- Video/Motion Graphics (music video, short film, commercial, documentary). The drawing test/portfolio review gives Ex'pression an understanding of the maturity of skills in the areas of mass, proportion, shading, balance, composition, layout, color, contrast, and storytelling all crucial skills needed to be successful in College level art courses.
Meet with an admissions representative (more than one meeting may occur) and receive a tour of the school; completion of an admission questionnaire is requested at this time, but not required for admittance.
Entrance Interview and TestSchedule a time with an admissions representative to participate in an entrance interview and take the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test. If you have earned a bachelor’s degree at an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education or if you have earned a degree at a foreign institution, recognized by the federal government of that nation, you may be exempt from taking the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test; please contact an admissions representative for further information.
Those applicants that have completed either the SAT or ACT exams may submit official test scores in lieu of completing the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test.
The entrance interview and a passing test score are required for admittance to the College.
Calculators are not permitted when taking the Wonderlic Basic Skills test.
If you require disability accommodations for the entrance test, accommodations must be requested within 48 hours prior to testing. Please notify your admissions representative who will direct you to our Disabilities Coordinator.
Acceptance to Ex’pressionA representative will notify you if you are accepted to Ex’pression. You must then complete the enrollment agreement and all required enrollment forms.
New Student OrientationParticipation in New Student Orientation is required. Students unable to attend orientation must notify the admissions department prior to the scheduled orientation date to make alternate arrangements.
