Gabriel Perez, Motion Graphic Design graduatee

Gabriel Perez

Motion Graphic Design, Class 50

Gabriel was raised in Stockton, California. He’s always been interested in graffiti art; while he was in high-school, he thoroughly immersed himself in photography, painting, acrylics, and stencils.

After finding out about Ex’pression College through a Sound Arts friend, Gabriel was drawn to the accelerated format at the school and discovered a new respect for Motion Graphics. While enrolled at Ex’pression, Gabriel had the opportunity to learn skills in several areas including logo design, commercial bumpers, lower 3rds, music videos, and the professional life skills class pushed him to rethink his relationship with his work.

Upon graduating in 2007, Gabriel was able to line up an internship at Juxtapoz magazine through an instructor. At Juxtapoz, he got the opportunity to work extensively on web design, in addition to writing articles about street art and music shows. He appreciated the youthful nature of the company and not being confined to a cubicle.

My biggest drive is to see how my graphic abilities affect other people in a social context for positive change– not just to sell products.

Immediately following his internship, Gabriel was hired at notable advertising agency, Razorfish, with full benefits. He has since worked with clients like Intel, Washington Mutual, and Barbie, while utilizing green screens, lighting and keying, live action directing, animations, and “infographics”. He’s also worked for CW5, Little Red Robot, and Duck Studios on projects for Nike, Disney, Nintendo, Mazda, and more.

Gabriel now resides in Los Angeles and has recently been working with Ghost Town Media creating a wide range of graphics and animations for the band Linkin Park. When he’s not working on music videos, creating original t-shirt designs, writing a blog, or painting, he gives back to the community through school programs and workshops by teaching inner-city kids about social issues with graphic design. “My biggest drive is to see how my graphic abilities affect other people in a social context for positive change- not just to sell products.”
