Jeremy Rosenblum, Sound Arts graduatee

Jeremy Rosenblum

Sound Arts, Class 63

Jeremy found his way to Ex’pression College after it became apparent that his passion was more than just a hobby. At the time, Jeremy had just graduated with a degree in Peace & Security from San Francisco State University. In between lectures and reports, he was active in a band and had a project recording studio in his basement in the Sunset District of San Francisco. Jeremy never really felt a career in audio was feasible until his father, recognizing his interest and talent, was the first one to recommend recording school.

Ex’pression taught me how to problem-solve in a studio environment, which is critical when you’re in a recording session dealing with many pieces of electronic gear.

The experience of recording in his basement using a Fostex multi-track recorder, and eventually a Pro Tools LE rig, allowed him to ask focused audio questions and really get the most out of his Sound Arts classes. As a student, he learned everything from how to properly wrap cables to the technical aspects of how two different microphones interact with each other in a recording environment; not information that you necessarily learn by yourself in your basement studio. “Ex’pression taught me how to problem solve in a studio environment, which is critical when you’re in a recording session dealing with many pieces of electronic gear.”

Jeremy vividly remembers commuting to Ex’pression College and seeing billboards near the Bay Bridge advertising the first Left 4 Dead video game. He is now the co-founder and lead tech at the Studio SQ recording and mixing facility in San Francisco and one of his first big projects upon graduation involved the video game Left 4 Dead 2.
