Emily Jarrett

What would make a New York graphic artist, with a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, move all the way to California to persue a second degree from scratch? The answer: a degree in Motion graphics. Emily Jarrett found Expression via her brother, who came to the school in search of an education in animation and enrolled in the Motion Graphic Design program. Five months later, Emily was in Design Basics, and having fun. “I was really attracted to the energy of the place, I thought it was really unique.” Emily had finished school in New York and was looking for work as a graphic designer. “ It was a time where everyone really wanted motion graphics and I didn’t know it.”

I was really attracted to the energy of the place, I thought it was really unique.

After joining Expression, Emily found the breadth of the program to be even more thorough than she expected. The 3D and video editing training changed the development of her own artwork. In addition to being a graphic artist, Emily is also a photographer and illustrator. Her training in video and 3D enabled her to modify her existing art, edit it, then make it do more with motion using After Effects. “I felt I was able to maximize my time in school, really focus and make the most of it.”

As a native New Yorker, California took a little bit of getting used to. For one thing, Emily had to learn to drive. The laid back atmosphere was appealing to her. “I think I will stay here for awhile and work.” Emily plans to work in the advertising industry, then eventually go out on her own and freelance. Although Emily certainly has motion graphics chops now, she feels her strength is in the diversity of her education. “I like it all, print, motion, and web.”
