In partnership with KFOG, we are proud to welcome to the next Ex’pression Session.
Scars on 45, a quintet from Leeds, England, combines the gentle melodic intensity of Snow Patrol or Keane with the added allure of co-ed vocals. Members of the quintet include Danny Bemrose, Stuart Nichols, David “Nova” Nowakowski, Aime Driver and Chris Durling. The group’s music can be classified as intense, soulful and full of emotion. Highlights on the group’s self-titled, 10-song debut include “Heart on Fire.”
The band recorded Scars on 45 on their own, starting first in Danny and Stu’s apartment, and eventually moving and finishing the recording to the basement of a church that was purchased by a friend to soon be converted into apartments. “He let the congregation live there for awhile, so there was this little rock and roll band recording in the basement and we had a lot of praying going on next door,” Danny recalls.
The music caught the attention of noted music supervisor, Alexandra Patsavas, who signed the band to her Atlantic Records-distributed label, Chop Shop Records. The band also performed at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, TX.
