Bryan ThombsPicture Mill
Bryan Thombs is an experienced 3d animator who is used to working on diverse projects, ranging from elaborate photo real 3d environments to stylized motion graphics, each requiring a balance of technical and creative solutions. His experience with supervision of other artists and being a project leader suits him well. He is a true team player always looking at the big picture, anticipating the next challenge.
Besides his knack for technical know-how and problem solving, Bryan also contributed his creative and 3d design skills to films like Legion, Max Payne, Death Race, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Mission Impossible 3, Reign of Fire and many others.
Although his real passion is lighting and compositing, his background as generalist at smaller shops allows him to execute many rolls including animation, modeling, texturing, rigging and some dynamics and particle work. His knowledge in all these areas allows him to quickly trouble shoot and advise artists how to pursue solutions to problems.
Picture Mill’s latest title design is for the film Legion. Bryan will explain how they developed design concepts, type face choices, story boards, animatics, and of course the finished piece. He will talk about the unique methods used to design and animate the Nickelodeon Movies logo which appears at the beginning of all their films, combining different techniques such as CG, live action, 3d and 2d.
Bryan will also talk about trends in motion graphics which include designing graphics for stereoscopic 3d and how they did the movie trailer graphics for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and a peak at some concept work for the Tron trailer graphics. He will wrap up the talk and continue my thoughts on trends, concept driven design, and how the lines are blurring between motion graphics, high-end 3d, and visual effects.
