Ex’pression Student a finalist in 2008 Webby In-Motion Award Contest!

Monday, May 19th was a very good day for MGD student Brandon Sugiyama. It was the day he found out from Alex Delyle, Marketing Producer of The Webby Awards in New York City, that he was now a finalist in their annual Webby In-Motion contest.

What is Webby In-Motion you may be asking yourself right now?

Webby In-Motion is a special collaborative contest presented by Adobe and The Webby Awards where they ask motion designers, illustrators, animators and other talented creative minds to design a 20-second category introduction animation/video for The Webby Awards Gala in NYC on June 10, 2008. The 20-second animation/video on a given Webby category cluster included — subjects like “Entertainment,” “Services,” “Marketplace,” etc.

Out of the 10 category cluster finalists, Brandon originally was selected for the “Living” category, but with a few minor changes ended up better representing “Services.” The Webby Awards acknowledged Brandon’s work as clearly being a “labor of love” and was very impressive to all who saw it. Mind you, this competition is no pushover. It’s highly competitive and open to professionals. Quite an accomplishment for Brandon, and one we are more than happy to recognize.

Watch Brandon’s “Services” animation and see the other Webby In-Motion winners here.

Congratulations to our hard-working MGD student and one who very much deserves his category prize of a Master Collection CS3 Suite! Brandon’s piece was a term 308 final for his Motion Graphics 2 class taught by course instructor, Tim Shetz.

The winner’s work for each category cluster will be showcased during the Webby Awards Gala in front of over 800 luminaries from the Web, interactive, entertainment, and advertising industries. Past Webby Awards attendees include David Bowie, Al Gore, Prince, and the Beastie Boys.
