Sounds Arts Faculty Members Selected To Teach Educational Workshops

(EMERYVILLE, CA – December 29, 2010) – Ex’pression College for Digital Arts, one of the premier schools of its kind in the United States, is pleased to announce that three Sound Arts faculty members will be conducting workshops at the Hands-On Training (H.O.T. ) Zone at the 2011 National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Show, which takes place January 13-16, 2011, in Anaheim, California. Instructors Michael Cox, Hani Gadallah, and Vince Santora will lead a total of four different workshops at the H.O.T. Zone, which will offer free one-hour classes on more than 75 educational topics related to the commercial recording, live sound and lighting, and DJ industries.

“As an educator in the audio industry, we are proud to support NAMM and their efforts to offer their members the opportunity to learn, enhance, update, and acquire skills that will help them become more knowledgeable. Education is about sharing information and we are honored to participate at NAMM and provide training to fellow audio and recording professionals,” commented Spencer Nilsen, President of Ex’pression College, on the school’s decision to participate at NAMM for the first time.

Ex’pression College will present workshops in the following areas: Open Sound Control for DJs and Performers, Exploring Interactive Audio, Introduction to Live Mixing, and Live Mixing: Career Survival.  Together, Michael Cox and Vince Santora will present “Open Sound Control for DJs and Performers” and “Exploring Interactive Audio.” Cox, who earned his MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media from the Center for Contemporary Music at Mills College, is a sound arts programmer who has worked on sound design for video games and audio-visual engineering, while also researching experimental music through algorithmic composition. Santora has taught a wide array of subjects from post-production for film and game audio using Logic, WWISE, and the Unreal Editor to music production classes in Ableton Live, Max/MSP, and Max for Live. Santora studied Electronic Music in the Electronic Music Studios program at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He has been producing and performing his own style of glitch-hop and dubstep music since 2009.

Both of the Live Mixing workshops will be led by instructor Hani Gadallah. Gadallah, a course director in the Sound Arts program, has been a faculty member at Ex’pression College since 2000. Gadallah has over 14 years of teaching experience, and was an instructor at the California Recording Institute prior to joining Ex’pression College. As a live sound engineer for 17 years, Gadallah has worked with a variety of artists including Train, James Brown, Ray Charles, Ziggy Marley and Neil Young.

“Our faculty come to us with a unique combination of both industry and educational experience – our instructors continue to work in the field and are then able to share this knowledge with our students. We are committed to keeping our curriculum updated and current and our instructors play a significant role in this effort,” said Nilsen.
