Ex’pression College for Digital Arts Faculty Member Selected to Produce New Aerosmith Album

Grammy-winning Producer Jack Douglas to Begin Work on Aerosmith Album in July

(EMERYVILLE, CA – June 9, 2011) –Ex’pression College for Digital Arts, one of the premier schools of its kind in the United States, is pleased to announce that Sound Arts faculty member Jack Douglas will return to the studio in July to produce Aerosmith’s much anticipated new album. Aerosmith, whose last album of original material was recorded ten years ago, is one of the best-selling American rock bands of all time, having sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, holding the record for most gold and multi-platinum albums by an American group.

Douglas, who has been a faculty member at Ex’pression College for the past ten years, Jack Douglas in the studio at Ex’pressionproduced six Aerosmith albums, which include Get Your Wings (1974), Toys in the Attic (1975), Rocks (1976), Draw the Line (1977), Rock in a Hard Place (1982), and Honkin’ on Bobo (2003). Douglas has worked with artists such as Miles Davis, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, The Who, Patti Smith, and Supertramp. Additionally, Douglas worked closely with John Lennon, engineering Imagine, and later produced Double Fantasy with Lennon and Yoko Ono, which won a Grammy for Record of the Year.

“The Ex’pression course schedule allows me to work on other outside projects, like the new Aerosmith album. No matter where I am, or what I am working on, I am able to carve out time to come work with the students. I always get so much more than I give and it’s an honor to be a part of the new generation of professionals,” said Douglas. Every five weeks, Douglas returns to Emeryville to teach Studio Etiquette and Psychology, a course focused on developing interpersonal skills specific to the studio environment. Students are also required to complete a professionally packaged demo reel. “I find it to be an energizing experience. The students often give as much to me, with their fresh look at things, as I attempt to give them,” said Douglas.

“We, especially our students, are fortunate to have Jack as an instructor for Studio Etiquette & Psychology. Students meet Jack at a very opportune time - they take his course right before they graduate, which means they are able to apply what they have learned over the last 2 1/2 years and put together a session in class, knowing it will be evaluated by Jack. They learn about their strengths and weaknesses, and how they can improve their skills from an esteemed audio professional, so that when they enter the industry, they are better prepared and have learned from one of the industry’s leading producers,” said Sound Arts Program Director John Scanlon.

Sound Art is one of seven Bachelor Degree programs that Ex’pression College offers. Sound Arts students will take part in numerous studio production sessions focusing on recording and mixing for music releases, audio post-production for film and television, and game audio design, while also exploring live sound and lighting practices, like integrating audio and video content for broadcast, live performance recording, and concert and stage monitor mixing.
