Andrew Britt travels to Burma

Andrew Britt, Director of the Animation & Visual Effects (AVE) Program, travelled to Myanmar on a humanitarian mission!  Who knew that there would be an opportunity to use computer graphics training skills to save lives?

It all began at a Program Advisory Committee for the Animation and Visual Effects program. Randy Nelson, Dean of Pixar University and Expression Advisory Committee Member recommended Andrew for an animation teaching position on a public service commercial to help prevent the spread of AIDS in Asia by encouraging the use of condoms.

Andrew gratefully accepted the challenge to travel to Yangon to speak at the American Embassy there as part of the USIS, United States Information Service. He will be discussing teaching animation and visual effects at Expression College.

Join us for his graphic presentation on Friday, February 23rd in Meyer Hall at 6pm

Presentation recap here.

Recap of Journey…

Andrew Britt has returned from Yangon, Myanmar and the trip was a great success!  Andrew managed to compress two and a half years of Ex’pression Animation & Visual Effects education down to a week of training. Starting with the elements of storytelling, the workshop took the students through the animation process from modeling, to rigging and animation, lighting and rendering. The students left the class fired up and more prepared to create 3D animated public service announcements encouraging the use of condoms to prevent the spread of AIDS.  In addition, Andrew spoke to a packed house at the USIS (United States Information Service) which is part of the American Embassy in Myanmar. There, he showed student work and footage of the school, and explained the animation process to a wide swath of people who have very little access to information about the field.

While there, Andrew found time to visit a 2,500 year old huge temple complex called Shwegadon covered in real gold.  He also visited the ancient city of Bagan which has over 3,000 pagodas.
