Expression chose the following letter out of many others submitted for the VGL contest. As the winner and best article describing why the Game Art & Design program would be excellent for her, Dominic won the free tickets to VGL.
The air is thin and the trees covered in snow. I look up at the sky and see the sun glaring down on the ice-covered bridge. My sword sheathed and armor in pristine condition for I am ready to battle. To my left, I see what was once a glorious castle; but now it is nothing more than rubble and bone.
There is a feeling like no other when I play a video game. A feeling that can only be described through immense detail and elegant remembrance. To see the evolution of video game environments (from Space Invaders to the World of Warcraft) is to see the evolution of imagination and technology. When I play a video game, I am in it. Just like any good book, gaming lets you escape reality to experience a world like no other. A world where anything goes. The only limits in gaming today are games that have not been developed.
I want to contribute to the world of gaming by modeling my imagination into magnificent landscapes and my ideas to new types of games. Once you experience a great game, you will have a new perspective on gaming itself.
[It] is a lifestyle, a passion, and for me hopefully a career.
