General Education Courses

All students are required to earn at least 30 credit units of General Education as part of each degree program offered. General Education courses are usually concentrated in the first two academic years of a student’s program of study; however, Ex’pression reserves the right to place these courses throughout a student’s program depending on course availability.

General Education courses will be taken online. Students may be enrolled in an online class in addition to an on-campus class. Students will not be enrolled in only an online class except in extenuating circumstances. Online classes are conducted in an asynchronous environment and are considered 24/7. Student must login to their online class at least twice out of every seven day period to be considered in attendance. Additional participation policies apply and are covered in each class syllabus. Instructors will respond to student assignments within approximately 36 hours from the time the assignment was turned in.

Common Core Courses

Common Core courses at Ex’pression are relevant to students in all programs of study. These multidisciplinary courses offer students the opportunity to work collaboratively with students from other programs as well as their own. Students are required to take all Common Core courses as an essential supplement to their respective program requirements.

Every Ex’pression student takes the Common Core courses, beginning with Media Sound and Visual 1 & 2 (MSV) and Living in a Media World 1 & 2 (LMW). The MSV sequence is an opportunity to work collaboratively with students from other programs while creating a short movie. From writing an original script and creating storyboards to video editing and audio design, students rotate crew positions and are immersed in the complete production process from start to finish. In the LMW sequence, students are taught to apply theoretical concepts to their own artistic development with a project that culminates in a non-fiction video podcast and website. Students complete their studies at E’xpression with the Professional Life Skills and Business of Media courses. With topics ranging from business etiquette, networking and interviewing skills to copyright law and contracts, we prepare students for the myriad responsibilities and challenges they will face in their careers.
